Valentine's day is approaching and this month's featured Creative is single. So, you'll excuse his Grindr-esque profile card. :P
Seriously though, I learned of Lucky Sanford when we were both featured in Class Comic's Halloween special, Meaty #3. His work reveals a style that includes all of my favorite elements - cartoony, sexy, and colorful.
Here's what I learned when I got to know him better...
LUCKY SANFORD: Insight
What are you doing when you're not drawing?
"Most likely at the gym, reading books, watching cartoons, texting, sexting, downing mimosas at brunch..."
What scares you?
"Sex after Chipoltle - No bueno"
How old were you when you came out?
What's the "Gayest" thing about you?
"Sticking my dick up other guys butts...yea, that's pretty gay."
Do you have any other talents outside of art?
"Getting out of speeding tickets."
If you had to replace your artistic talent with another one, what would it be?
"I've always wanted to know how to play the guitar, so I'd go with that."
What is the proudest moment of your life?
"Walking across the stage with my degree in hand and a job secured."
LUCKY SANFORD: Art
How long have you been drawing erotic toons (professionally)?
"I'm fairly new to the homotoon scene. I'll be celebrating my blogs 1 year anniversary on February 25th."
Being an erotic artist can close a lot of doors for an artist. Why do you do it?
"It can be frustrating having to keep my mainstream work separate for professional purposes, but you're never gonna please everybody, so fuck it - do what makes you happy."
Who were/are some of the biggest influences on your artistic style?
"Comics and fashion in general are my biggest influences. Comic book artist like J. Scott Campbell and Joe Mad and fashion artist like Jordi Labanda and Antonio Lopez have all been integral to my artistic development.
What part of drawing comes easiest to you?
"The initial thumbnail sketches."
Which part of drawing is the most frustrating?
"When I get a drawing like 95% completed and there's that one thing like an eye or a finger that I can't seem to get right."
What projects are you currently working on?
"Last March, I began a series of monthly pinups I call 'Manly Monthlys.' I took a break from it for a while but I plan on using the illustrations (once completed) to release a calendar for 2014. In addition to that, I'm developing my own original characters and in the the future I'd like to team up with other artist to create a compilation that focuses on men of color."
What wisdom will you share with other artist?
"Never do anything you're really good at for free."
LUCKY SANFORD: Sex
Top or Bottom?
How old were you when you lost your virginity?
Did you lose it to a girl or a guy?
"To my surprise, it was a girl."
Biggest Turn on:
Biggest Turn Off:
When does size matter?
"When ordering a pizza."
Most over rated thing about sex:
"Not saying I don't enjoy it, but actual intercourse. I can go for hours on end with foreplay."
