Jeff Krell

Jayson is the original "gay Archie character." Drawn in a style very reminiscent of Dan DeCarlo,  Jayson debuted in 1983 on the pages of "Philidelphia Gay News." Jayson later became one of the cornerstones of the gay comics compilation series, "MeatMen," featured in nearly 20 volumes. Jayson was nationally syndicated in 1990 and today continues to entertain us with new adventures in every day life.
I had the privilege of meeting Jayson's creator, Jeff Krell,  at this year's Bent-Con. Jeff would probably disagree, but Jeff is the living embodiment of Jayson. After meeting him and now having interviewed him, I feel that way even more so. You don't have to take my word on it, read his Q&A and let me know what you think.

Bent-Con 2012 Recap

So it's been two weeks since the extravaganza gathering of gay geeks, Bent-Con, occurred. The event is so overwhelmingly fun, it takes me at least a week to recover.
Many of you already know what Bent-Con is, but for the benefit of those who don't, I'll explain. Bent-Con is an annual LGBT Comic Convention. It's technically 3 years old, but this is its second "official" year. Bent-Con gives home to artist, writers, directors, and anyone else showcasing queer work that usually is either overshadowed or more often excluded all together from other comic conventions. Fans can enjoy works they would normally miss out on as well as participate in cosplay they would usually not be free to or feel comfortable wearing.
This year's show was packed with so many great panels, it was not easy picking which ones to attend. Celebrities like  Amber Benson, Tom LenkChristopher Riceand even Traci Lords got in on this years fun along with Celebrity creatives like Jane Espenson, Phil Jimenez, Wendy Pini, Marc Andreyko, and too many more to list without this looking like one of those linage books of the Bible. Here are a few highlights from the show...

December

Hey Everybody!
The end of 2012 is nigh! Can you believe it?!
The end of the world doesn't look like it's gonna be happening anytime soon, so I guess I have to get back to work. I'm just getting back into the swing of things after returning from my trip to Bent-Con last weekend, but first there are some birthdays that need to be recognized:

This month two fantastic artist will be celebrating the big 4-0! Boy Meets Hero's co-creator and colorist, Russle Garcia is celebrating on the 13th and Spanish artist extraordinaire, David Cantero, on the 29th.
Be sure to stop by their facebook page or websites and give him some Extra birthday love.

Ok, I have LOTS to share about Bent-Con! Instead of trying to sum it up with a few unjust adjectives and disclosures, I will be posting a review of the amazing event later this week.

The last few months have been stressful for me and the blog has suffered for it. Actually every since I returned from Japan, this Crazy year has been spinning in chaos. The combo of a much needed time out and the super rejuvinative aspects of Bent-Con have helped me bounce back. I have some long overdue fan art pieces to share with you in addition  to a celebratory JezzLoad Q&A with Jason's Jeff Krell

Happy Monday to all of you and make it a GREAT week!

Michael Derry

He is best known as the creator of the web comic, Troy, but you might know him as the voice of Flippy in the animated series "Clay Kids." He illustrates, he writes, he animates, and he's one hell of a voice actor. It appears there is no limit to Michael Derry's creative expression. The witty and entertaining "shy guy-funny man" reluctantly allowed me to probe him for your pleasure in this month's Q&A. I hope you enjoy him as much as I did...

Nicke Charles

He's a master at lusting up ordinary situations. His guys are hot, bearish, and adorable. And Nickie Charles's work seems to be popping up ever where you look (with or without his consent.) Nickie Charles describes himself as a "simple gay erotica illustrator." I'm sure after you see some of his work and read his responses, you'll agree 'simple' has never been more spectacular!

October

 Happy October, Everybody!

I'm back from my globe trotting and back at my drawing table. I can honestly say, I missed you guys :)  For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it's Fall - my favorite time of the year. So as hard as it is for me to stay inside during this time of year, I've got lots to keep me and my pencils busy. Before I go any further, it's time for Birthday shout-outs...

French Lustmaster, Logan will be 41 on the 4th
Glen Hanson celebrates another year on the 11th
and Shirtlifter's Steve MacIsaac will be 43 on the 21st

As you all know (or at least should) Bent-Con is coming up next month. So I've got lots to do in prep for the show. That means I won't be posting much fan art this month, BUT that DOES mean I will be posting some teasers of what you have to look forward to at the show and a peak at some of the projects I'm currently working on. In addition to all that, you guys are in for a treat of an interview. His work has been poppin up everywhere this year and I can't get enough of it. Nickie Charles gave me a good load of his goods that I'm lookin forward to sharin with you guys.

Ok folks, Till next time - Make it a Grrrrrrrrrrrreat week!

Fan Art: Bolin

Hey Everybody,

One of my favorite cartoons, Avatar: The Last Air Bender, is back with a new season and new cast in Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Here I give you a teaser of one of my new favorites from the series, Bolin. Bolin is cartoonishly hot in a very youthful, goofy, and beefy way. From the first episode, I thought to myself, " I have to draw him - NAKED!" :D
I am working on a series of both fan and slash art from the series of many of the characters. Once I'm done working on the books I'm currently illustrating I will be able to finish them up.
In the meantime, enjoy this teaser and let me know what you think just happened in this scenario.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Everybody!

Window Washer Heroes

The stupidity of those who choose to do evil seems to always get all the attention in the media, while guys like these window washers deserve more than what I'm sure they got.

These window washers at a children's hospital in London, UK dressed up as super heroes to life the children's spirits.
Reading this lifted my spirits as well.

Condolences to the victems of the Aurora, Colorado Batman Shooting

My heart goes out to those of you who have been affected by the disgusting and horrific events at the Aurora, Colorado viewing of Batman:The Dark Knight Rises.

I did not create this image so perfectly suited for this dire occasion.

Sincerely,
-Jezza Smilez

Brave: A Completely Different Story

I LOVED Pixar's Brave!!!
The characters were lovable, the animation is impeccable and the story tugged at my heart strings.

As soon as I was done with it, I said I have to draw something. I have some sketches of the actual character that I plan on doing something with, but I figured you guys would prefer my gender-bending twisted play with the characters. :)

More fan art comin soon.
Happy Friday, Everybody!

Body Lounger

A little while ago, writer, Eric Arvin, posted an image on his blog from this month's feature. That image alerted me to the work of Body Lounger and I've been following his blog every since.
BL's work immediately grabbed me. I still can't identify what exactly captivates me. It might be the monstrous mass of his beautifully sculpted subjects. It very well could be their exaggerated extremities or the suggestive scenarios that play on some of my favorite fetishes. I'm certain the LUST oozing from each and every angle of a scene plays a big part in what keeps me goin' back for more. But what ever it is, It gets me and I immediately had to learn about the artist and share him and his work with you.

Gay Porn Star, Erik Rhodes has Died

I wasn't aware of all the demons Erik (James) was fighting, but after reading his "obituary," I was saddened and felt like his story needed to be shared.
I'm hoping sharing this post will help someone facing the same demons.

SAN FRANCISCOFalcon Studios contract star Erik Rhodes, 30, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning in New York from a heart attack during his sleep.
Falcon officials, including Adam Q. Robinson, Falcon’s vice president of production, issued statements through various social media outlets this morning about Rhodes’ passing.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Erik Rhodes this morning. Erik died of a heart attack in his sleep,” Robinson tweeted. “Erik has been an amazing friend & part of the Falcon family for 8 years, a man of steel on the outside but all teddy bear on the inside.”
Chris Ward, Falcon/Raging Stallion Studios president, offered the following statement: "We are deeply saddened by Erik's passing. He was a part of our family and we are devastated.  Our thoughts are with his loved ones."

Homage to Sadao Hasegawa

In honor of Asian History Month, I'm starting what I hope to make a JezzLoad tradition by
paying homage to Asian artists through my own work. There's no artist  more appropriate to start such a tradition than Sadao Hasegawa. Sadao's work was one of my first exposures to gay erotic art and his illustrations of Asian men remain an inspiration. His style involves several of my favorite elements; Muscle Men, Mythology, Geometry, and of course SEX. A Hasegawa piece is often arranged in this beautifully chaotic manner that pulls you down a rabbit hole of fantasy, color, and intricate detail.
I gotta admit - I seriously underestimated how intense depicting Sadao's style would be, but the process sparked several new ideas to introduce into my own style.

Here's a little bit of history about Sadao Hasegawa along with some of his work...

SEAN PLATTER

Hey Everybody!
This month's interview is LONG overdue, but well worth the wait. I had the honor of being "Boothed" next to this amazing artist at last year's Bent-Con. Sean Platter was every much as friendly as he is talented.  Not only is Sean one of my favorite erotic artist, I learned he was an artist on several of the cartoons I watched growing up!
I learned a good bit about him as well as a lot  from him.

I'm BACK!!!

Happy Monday, Everybody!
I hope you all had a great weekend and are rested up to make the most of the week ahead.

First things first - Birthday Roll Call:
Beefcake, Eric Arvin, turned 37 on the 6th. Be sure to stop by his blog, and show him some love. And yours truly turns 33 on the 23rd.

OK. Where to begin?
Let me start with a very sincere Thank You!
Thank You to all who have remained in touch and/or continue to check back here for new post. At the end of last year, Life smiled on me in several ways and threw an abundance of greatness my way, so I've been ÜBER Busy juggling it all.
It's too easy to be away from the blog and forget how long I've been away. Despite my absence, you guys have continued to remind me how much you enjoy your regular visits to my blog, and I couldn't let that go unrewarded. I'm still learning how to balance it all, but I've got things stable enough to resume blogging. So, once again, THANK YOU!

I'm kickin it all off with resuming my tradition of monthly Calendar Guys. Last year I didn't get much feedback or commentary on them so I assumed interest in them had been lost. But since I'd stopped posting them, several of you have made me aware they have been very much missed. So, I'm happy to keep up what's become a JezzLoad tradition.

It's MAY!!! Can you believe it?!
May means one thing. It's Asian History Month.
Supposedly May means it's Masturbation Month too, but I don't think masturbating needs its own month, when it's an Hourly event in my world. :P
At last year's Bent-Con, I got some very inspirational feed back from my Asian fans for regularly representing them in my work. I can not express how moved I was/am by these praises. I will always strive to represent those that I feel aren't be represented enough in visual media, so I'm proud to celebrate Asian History Month. You guys can look forward to some original works showcasing some more of my Soy Boys as well as some fan art pieces payin' tribute to some of my favorite Asian characters.

And that's not all! I have a long over due interview for you with the awe-inspiring, Sean Platter! A MUST READ!

Ok, Folks. That's all for now. I'll save the rest for next time.
Until then,
Be well and make it a great week.
I love you guys.
