Boy Meets Hero - 20 years of Love and Art

In 4 years of JezzLoads, you've never seen a Valentine's Day post. I personally feel Valentine's Day has to be the most redundant of holidays. People who are in love know they're in love and don't need a holiday to remind them. And if they did, they have birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, Christmas - come to think of it; most holidays are designated as a time to remind loved ones you love them. Valentine's Day appears to be a big commerical ploy to get everyone to spend money and is used too often as a means to make single people feel bad about being single. 

That said and out of my system, this Valentine's Day serves as the perfect occasion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the boys behind Boy Meets Hero. 

The creators of Boy Meets Hero, Chayne Avery and Russell Garcia, both recently celebrated their 40th birthdays and next month will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary.

I have to say, I have a hard time imagining being with anyone for 20 years, but seeing these two guys interact with each other certainly inspires me to try. 
I have the privilege of hanging out with these guys regularly. They are a team; both romantically and professionally. They're not one of those annoying TV couples that finish each other's sentences or always bicker. Instead, they interact like best friends - an interaction that is more romantic than any of the hollywood interpretations I've ever seen. 
I had to know, how do they make it work?! Here's what the two had to say when I questioned them separately...

I was so amped up from the Boy Meets Hero interview that I sent a few of the same questions  to some other Creative couples that have been together 10 years or more.

Artist, Choklit Daddy (right), and his husband,Greg, met at a Glee Club audition at UCLA in 1975. They have been together almost 37 years and are legally married.

Will O. Tyler of Carabosse Comics (right) and his partner, David, met on the Metro in Washington, D.C. and have been together 12 years as registered domestic partners.

Everyone should have someone they can be silly with.

Patrick Fillion (left) and Robert Fraser of Class Comics were introduced through a straight friend of Fraser's. Last year they celebrated their 10th anniversary by getting married.

SEAN PLATTER

Hey Everybody!

This month's interview is LONG overdue, but well worth the wait. I had the honor of being "Boothed" next to this amazing artist at last year's Bent-Con. Sean Platter was every much as friendly as he is talented.  Not only is Sean one of my favorite erotic artist, I learned he was an artist on several of the cartoons I watched growing up!

I learned a good bit about him as well as a lot  from him.

Dave Davenport

The countdown to BENT-Con has started!

BeefyBlimps

I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of exaggerated and cartoony art styles. So, you can see why I was an instant fan of the work from big boy artist, BeefyBlimps. Beefy's work swells with masculinity and pops with testosterone. The lust in his work seems to drip a humor that made me eager to know more about him and after interviewing him, I want to know even more!

The Gay Comic Geek

 
I don't think this month's feature needs any introduction. He's the one and only - Gay Comic Geek. Every artist has his muse and my muse is Paul. I don't know why. I see him and I have to draw him.
So without further delay...

Justin Hall

You've most likely met or seen Justin Hall at a Prism Comics booth at any of the Californian comic conventions or you might know his work from Hard to Swallow and Glamazonia.

If you still don't recognize him, maybe you know him by a different name...

Jon Macy

This week's feature is as endowed artistically as he his with the gift of writing. 

I'm gonna admit, I wasn't familiar with Jon Macy prior to researching Northwest Press' creative line up.   I'm a little embarrassed to share that, because the man has been in this game for good minute. His folio includes everything from comics with Eros/Fantagraphics to the anthologies of Meatmen and Gay Comix to say the least. On top of decades of experience, he offers a unique style with fantastic stories from the heart. 

It is an honor to share a Jon Macy JezzLoad with you. :D

Zan Christensen

If you've read Class Comic's "Mark of Aceus," then you're familiar with the writings of Zan Christensen. Zan has ascended from being a comic writer to the ranks of comics publishing. When I learned of his new company, Northwest Press, I hopped on the opportunity to get to know Zan a little more and to find out more about his new comic company.

This interview revealed Zan has worn several hats (and hair colors) in the media industry...

Eric Arvin

I couldn't be more happy to share this month's feature with you. He's the author of books and comics such as Subsurdity, Suburbilicious, and Kid Christmas Rides Again. The talented Eric Arvin isn't just a pretty face and pair of biceps, he's fresh, clever, and funny. After reading this interview you'll be in love with him and understand the rules of establishing who's on top and bottom.

FMX

FMX is the Fallen Messiah X. What does that mean? I have no clue.
And it's not even one of the questions I thought to ask. I like not knowing - But I DO like knowing what super powers he would sport, who he works for, and what pornos he's been in.
He's very talented and I personally think he is adorable (seriously folks - FMX looks like a real live anime character, no lie). His sarcastic sense of humor makes me wish I could have held this interview in person.

Michael Breyette

This month I'm classin up my act.
This month's Q&A is with the incredible and sexy Michael Breyette. Michael's works are nothing less than amazing and defines the difference between porn and erotica. Believe me when I say I'm all about the porn, but erotica is just simply... SEXY! I love the way Michael's work kicks your imagination into gear. It's the same way a guy wearing a good pair of pants suggesting what's goin' on underneath is sexier than just putting it all out there. I could definitely learn a thing or two from Michael, hahaha!

GNINROM

Ok so it's been a minute since I've posted a Q&A. I'm very happy to get back into the swing of it with such a great and fun artist, Gninrom. This Finlander perv has gotta be one of the most popular slash artist in the blogging world. I love that he mimics the original style of the characters and yet somehow always makes it recognizable as his own. A technique I'm workin on improving in my own fan and slash works.
